Thank you for your question.
Hypothyroidism is a decrease in the thyroid hormones, T3 and T4, which are produced by the thyroid gland. The main organs affected by thyroid hormones are the skeleton, the heart and metabolism.
The most common reason for hypothyroidism is the lack of iodine in the diet. Iodine is found in seafoods (fish, crab and prawns), in cheese and eggs. Another reason for hypothyroidism is smoking. Cigarette smoking interferes with iodine absorption.
Common symptoms of hypothyroidism are: fatigue or pagkahapo, cold intolerance or pagiging ginawin, weight gain, constipation, myalgia or muscle aches and irregular menstruation. The problem with these sympoms are, they are also common in normal people. That’s why doctors rely more on the blood test than your symptoms.
Before you panic and think you have hypothyroidism it is best to have a blood test done before going to a thyroid specialist or endocrinologist. The tests you will need are: free T3 (P650), free T4(P650) and TSH (800). All prices are from High Precision Laboratories.
Once you have the results, it will give you an idea kung abnormal ang levels mo. If this is the case, then it is time to see a specialist for medication.
Hope this helps.
